Don’t let this lazy looking yoga pose fool you. It can be surprisingly challenging to sit still and consciously relax every muscle in your body. Here are a few tips and cues we recommend to help you and your yoga students fully relax in Savasana.
First, lay flat on the floor with your legs and arms slightly out from the midline. Much of relaxation has to do with focusing on the breath and breathing deeply. With each inhale, feel yourself fill with air and become lighter. On the exhale, imagine each limb getting a little heavier and sinking down into the floor beneath you.
Another great technique in Savasana is to do a body scan. Start at the top of your head and feel your consciousness scan your body in a counter-clockwise direction, letting each muscle group relax as you pass by it.
